A Book List...

...everyone talks about their bucket list these days after the acclaimed movie of the same name put it into our little minds. Well I just finished a book in 3 days that I normally would have never read. But in effort to get to know some ladies in my ward I joined a book club and this was the book they assigned us. (The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency, by Alexandar McCall Smith.) I'm certain it was an Oprah's book club, which is generally a turnoff for me because those of you that know me well know how much I'd like to just drop kick Oprah. I quite enjoyed it as I have always enjoyed reading but rarely indulge is this pasttime anymore as I tend to get very absorbed in a book and forget that I have to eat and go to the bathroom and oh that I have two children to attend to.

Well I started a Book List. Just a simple list of books I'd like to read before I die. I know I will never get to the billions and billions of incredibly grand books out there, and think why can I not write these best-sellers? I mean come on Beck says I have the writers line right there on my right hand next to my life line and my head line...geez!

I'm asking you my dear blog readers (ok all 4 of you), to post in your comment a good book you've read lately, and the author, and a very brief description. I may just add it to my book list. And if I do read a book you suggested perhaps I shall send you a book mark or soemthing!

Hi Jana:
First of all...congrats on being plugged back into the world. :) Hope the move was okay. Moving always sucks.
Second of all....I HATE Oprah too!!! She makes me crazy with her self absorbed, money can buy anything, I'm better than everybody but say I'm not, I think I'm an expert at everything (like parenting!!) even though I have no idea what I'm talking about, attitude. I've actually BEEN on her show way back when, and she is exactly the way I just described her. She's a horrible woman.
Off my rant, but I'm glad to know we're on the same "page" here.
Speaking of pages.....Here is my book recommendation. I have several, but I'll start with one: "The Time Travelers Wife", by Audrey Niffinager(or something like that). I could not put that book down! I'm much like you, forgeting that anything else exists in the world, when I'm in the middle of a great book. This book was exactly that. So...IF you read it, let me know what you think. :)
Sorry this was so long. :-/

Hmm...book suggestions..

Ok, I love a lot of young readers and YA fiction, something fun about that genre to me, so here is a list of some good ones that fall in that category:

The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley*
The Blue Sword by RObin McKinley*
Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine (much better than the toungue in cheek movie version)

if you read these and like them I can suggest more like them =)

*indicates my faves of the list!

I'm so bad about reading. If you check out my friend Misty's blog, awhile back she had a long list of great books to read!

If you can't find the post just leave a comment and tell her your my SIL and I'm sure she will totally link you to it.

She's a massive avid reader.

And good for you for joining a book club. I think that would make me feel so uncomfortable. I really don't like discussing things.

I don't have as much time to read as I once did. And I used to go to bed and read for hours, now it's snore time after one page.
I am currently reading "World without End" by Ken Follett, it is kind of a sequel to a book he wrote years ago "Pillars of the Earth" also a VERY good book. or for something lighter I recently read "the Great Train Robbery" by Michael Crichton.

LOL I love how you describe Oprah! I'm a total reading freak and read books in 2-3 days. I am more of an author fan, so I LOVE

Stephenie Meyer
Mary-Higgins Clark
Nicholas Sparks
Mary Seabold
John Connelly

Way to go on joining the book club! I'm very proud of you! Oh I'm currently reading Tuesdays With Morrie I will let you know.....

One of my favorite movies is also my favorite book, which I read again a few weeks ago: Cold Comfort Farm, by Stella Gibbons. It's surprisingly amusing for a book written in 1932, and the characters are hilarious. Read it Jana! Now!
